Doubts about childbirth
The moment of delivery still harbors many doubts. Our goal is to answer all your questions.

The birth

After the “sweet wait” comes the dreaded as well as long-awaited moment: you almost have your baby in your arms!

This moment is unique, literally. Each woman experiences it in a different way and even you yourself will notice changes from one pregnancy to another. However, what is clear is that during childbirth your physical and emotional resistance is tested.

First stage of labor: Dilation

You are at home and you notice the first contractions. sign that the time of delivery is approaching. As they are made increasingly regular and painful Your cervix will dilate and soften to allow the baby to move into the birth canal. It is very likely that you feel a pink flow which indicates that the mucus plug that blocks the cervical opening during pregnancy has come out. After this, your cervix will dilate and you will feel stronger and closer contractions each time. You are in the first phase:labor dilation.

Second stage of labor: Expulsive

Your baby is about to be born! He arrives time to bid. This phaseIt takes place between the time you reach full dilation and the birth of your baby. It is further divided into passive phase(contractions of the uterus cause the baby to descend along the vagina) and active phase(when the baby begins to be visible and expulsive contractions occur).

Third stage of labor: Delivery

Great, the worst is over and you already have your baby with you. But… the process is not over yet. In this last phase of labor, theexpulsion of the placenta. The mild contractions at the moment facilitate its expulsion and minimize bleeding. After this your uterus will continue to contract to return to its normal size.

Know what you will face in childbirth.
Labor is made up of 3 clearly differentiated phases: dilation, expulsion and delivery.

Types of childbirth

Each birth is unique and special. We could even say that there are as many types of births as there are women!

Vaginal delivery

Vaginal birth isspontaneous birth in which the baby comes out of the uterus to the outside. This type of birth is what occurs in the majority of pregnancies.

Caesarean section delivery

Birth by Caesarean section is a type ofprovoked or scheduled birth. It is a surgical intervention that is performed in the operating room in which The baby is delivered through an incision in the abdomen and into the uterus. It is a type of painless birth since it is performed either with epidural anesthesia or general anesthesia. This practice is usually done when the baby is breech, when the mother has health problems (gestational diabetes, hypertension, obesity,…), due to fetal distress, if during vaginal delivery the baby is not engaged, etc.

Although at that time labor occurs quickly and there is no pain, it has negative repercussions and risks for the mother. Here you can read more about the pain in childbirth.

Do you know the different types of birth that can occur?
There are different types of birth: vaginal birth, cesarean birth, water birth,…

Is natural birth the same as vaginal birth?

Although the terms natural birth and vaginal birth are often confused, we must say that no, they are not synonymous terms. Raise your hand if you haven’t read a celebrity magazine in which it said:“So-and-so has had her first baby after a natural birth… blah blah blah”? And yet most likely she was referring to a vaginal birth. There are those who understand natural birth as one that has not occurred by cesarean section, those who confuse it with vaginal birth or those who believe that it is the birth for which it has not been used.epidural. For Marta Bernárdez, president of the Galician Association of Midwives:“Normal birth is one that begins spontaneously, develops and ends without complications, culminates in the birth of a healthy baby and requires no intervention other than comprehensive and respectful support.”.

When we talk about natural birth we refer to the one in which the mother(usually with a low-risk pregnancy)he has absolute control over his body. A natural birth is one in which nature is allowed to take its course without the help of medications and without medical interventions. And it goes without saying that… it is the dream of many pregnant women!

Despite the opinion of many people, natural or normal birth is a safe birth. However, we must not ignore the recommendations of health professionals and of course allow any type of intervention to be carried out whenever the situation requires it. You must be flexible with your birth plan and be open to other possibilities in the event that complications arise for you or your baby . Besides recovery from natural childbirth is much better Since having endured so much pain during childbirth, the discomfort afterwards is less noticeable. After that the only thing you need is to rest.

What do we call natural birth?
Natural childbirth is one in which the mother has absolute control over her body.
